Monday, February 08, 2010

the wait is over my motorola droid friends.  the android 2.1 update is upon us!  i guess we should have really gone live with our leaked document and february 10th date from a few days ago and broke this beast wide open. anyways, through motorola's facebook page we get the following message...

Hi all-- we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We're happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later this week as well. Thanks for your patience and continued support.
no news on which features will be included/left out, but at least we have a date.  and i'm headed to the bar now to celebrate!

  3. Too bad we don't get all the funs that we thought we would get:

    No Live wallpapers
No 3D Launcher (we'll still be stuck with the app tray)

Pretty much only thing I want from it is the Browser with pinch-zoom since it has never been leaked/ported from Nexus.

I really wish somehow in the future we could get multi-touch keyboard.

  4. Awesome, well since it wont have the launcher or some of the other neat stuff from the Nexus one, I hope the dev's start porting those apps for the new update. If the ones they have now wont work that is :D.

  5. If this update is lacking the 2.1 launcher and live wallpapers then I'm guessing we'll have them ported over very soon and at a better quality than the ones we have now.

  6. Thats exactly what im hoping for too, kellex. So should we start uninstalling our ported apps? =)

  8. Will the 2.1 update brick or unroot a rooted Droid?

  9. By no means am I a root expert, but as far as I know, you should block OTA updates if you've rooted your device. There should be programs available that will do that.

Your question will probably be best answered at the alldroid.org forums just to be sure. :)

  12. I'm with ya Anon. The live wallpapers are not what I was looking for. I want MT and the Launcher and I may get screwed out of one of those.

  13. my cousin has the nexus and never uses the wallpapers he says they get old and or drain battery. so that something you might not need.

  14. I hope the geniuses here create a stable live wallpaper and the new tray over to droid becuase that's what I want out of the update. personally I could care less for the pinch and zoom as well as a preinstalled google goggle's.

  16. Still waiting on Adobe for flash 10.1. Hasn't even been released to android devs yet, though the PC version has been.

  17. I doubt we will get a watered down version of 2.1 just because the idiots at Engadget seem to think so, actually they dont think that they even said it was speculation. I see the only reason why it would be watered down is because most people were whining and crying and couldnt wait for a full version because its definatly not a hardware issue, the hardware in Droid is more than capable of running full 2.1.
