flan (eclair) gallery 2.1 with multi-touch or pinch-to-zoom ported to droid
Wednesday, February 03, 2010i know we are all annoyed that the nexus one just received an update which included multi-touch in all of its major apps, but let's look at the positives here: all of these apps with multi-touch will now be ported over to our motorola droids!
the first one up is the flan or eclair gallery from 2.1 and the multi-touch or pinch-to-zoom works great...
steps for installation:
1. uninstall other 2.1 flan gallery if you have it.
2. go into settings -> applications and check the "unknown sources" box.
3. visit this post from your phone's browser.
4. tap and download this file onto your phone: Gallery3DMT.apk (alt link)
5. tap on the downloaded application once it has finished.
6. install it and tap "open" when installation has completed.
(huge props again to the magicians at alldroid.org for this beauty.)
the rest of the android 2.1 apps you need:
1. nexus one / sense ui launcher
2. new eclair gallery with multi-touch
3. genie news and weather 2.1
4. launcher 2.1
5. music app 2.1
6. clock app 2.1
7. flan gallery 2.1

This app is great, like the video says it loads much faster than the original Flan Gallery and the multi touch is just sweet. Thanks and keep them coming.
ReplyDeleteJust installed... works great!
ReplyDeleteI have the new Launcher and the weather/news widget all working great on my Droid!! Thanks for putting these up
I like the bouncing effect great..do we know what version the n1 is at now?
ReplyDeleteYeah you'll all definitely notice how fast this new gallery is.
ReplyDeleteAlberto: Still haven't heard and for some reason no one is really reporting on it. I'll see what I can dig up.
This thing is so smooth I really hope they enable this on everything with the new update. Makes picsay and dolphin pinch and zoom look like poo. So any rumors flyin out there as to when we will finally see something? Hopefully we get an even newer firmare version than Nex1.
ReplyDeleteIt's crashing on my milestone
ReplyDeleteHmmm...should work on Milestone. Did you have the other 2.1 gallery installed? If you do, make sure to uninstall it first.
ReplyDeleteI I ddoubt they will bump the droid to higher firmware.. nexus is like google baby rightnow
ReplyDeleteLong time lurker, first time commenter.
ReplyDeleteThank You So Much!
Kellex, I download it to my Droid, but it wont install. I don't know how to unstall the first one. Can you point me in the right direction. I have astro so I delete the file, but it's still there.
ReplyDeleteall of the 2.1 apps works well on milestone :)
ReplyDeleteNolff: Welcome! haha
ReplyDeleteTony: Go into settings>applications>manage apps> then click on "Gallery" and uninstall.
how do you make it so that this gallery is your default gallery instead of the one that comes with the droid?
ReplyDeleteAs you use certain apps they should ask which gallery you want. You want the one that says "gallery" rather than the one that says "camera" and then make sure to check the default box.
ReplyDeleteGreat work guys... Works great and i am loving it... Waiting for the Maps and the Browser....Thanks again
ReplyDelete@ Kellex, thanks I'm good to go, you the man.
ReplyDeleteWhen zoomed in, photos seem more pixelated than in the regular Gallery app. Hopefully just a problem with the ported app and not the "official" release.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the difference between the Flan Gallery and the "New Eclair Gallery with Multi-touch"?
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to get rid of the preloaded gallery? Both galleries are sitting side by side in my menu, can't I just get rid of it
ReplyDeleteI think most of this has already been covered, but just in case...
ReplyDelete*) If you already have the old flan gallery installed, uninstall it. That will get rid of your albums sync'd from Picasa, but you can re-sync them after you install this new gallery. You NEED to uninstall the old gallery before trying to "upgrade" to this gallery.
*) If you have sync'd to Picasa before, Android may ask you to re-authorize that you want this app to have access to your Picasa gallery. Say yes.
*) There is a "Cash Machine" music video that you probably won't be able to play. Delete the video, and its corresponding gallery should go away too.
*) If you are into Picasa sync'ing, go into Settings->Accounts and Sync->Your Google Account and choose to sync Picasa. You may have to jump through some hoops by turning on autosync (if it isn't already), turning on Picasa, andturning autosync back off (if you want it off).
Updated download links. Should be good to go now. Sorry for the delay!
ReplyDeleteHow can I get rid of old flan gallery?
ReplyDeleteI can't find out..
Keun: go into settings>applications>manage applications and then find "gallery". tap on it and then click "uninstall".
ReplyDeleteHow can I make this my default gallery? I can't figure it out.
ReplyDeleteIf you open a picture in a text or email or something, it should prompt you. Check the default box and then choose gallery.
ReplyDelete@kellex: Thanks a bunch, you made my day. Droid-Life is the best...you get all this without rooting your phone.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....no matter what I try, I cannot get Picasa to show up in my accounts and sync screen. Hopefully the 2.1 update will let me do this1
ReplyDeleteHow come the 'camera videos' folder does not appear in this new gallery?
ReplyDeleteHow can I get the multi-touch gallery work on a rooted droid running 2.1?
ReplyDeletePinch to zoom doesn't really work like it should. It should zoom into wherever you pinch, where as this zooms into the center of the image no matter where you pinch. I hope it's just an issue with the port and not on 2.1.
ReplyDeleteThis app is cool, only one thing... There are two gallery icons, is that normal?... Sundawg102@gmail.com
