google earth app arrives in android market

Monday, February 22, 2010

the long awaited google earth app has finally arrived in the android market.  for those of you not familiar with google earth, just think of it as google maps on steroids and a super fun toy to mess with in your spare time.  practical uses?  not many that i can think of, but would love for someone to enlighten me.

there was talk of this only being available for the nexus one and 2.1 phones, but it showed up for me first try in the market.  (i am currently rooted which may have something to do with it.) and now that it has finished downloading and installing, i can tell you that i am definitely flying around the planet using 2.0.1.

update 2/22 9:23am:  apparently you can only access this app on your moto droid if you are rooted. interesting for sure...that 2.1 update better be coming this week.

features include multi-touch and voice search.  (quick tip:  using 2 fingers, do a twisting motion and you will get the earth to spin.)

how about some pics of the dubai earth islands?  eiffel tower?

  2. Looks to be for 2.1 only unless you have rooted your Droid. Very unfortunate. That 2.1 update can't get here faster...

  6. This is getting really irritating... what is the point of producing all these phones "with Google" if none of them can run any of the stuff?

  10. All: If I could create an apk for this I would, but I'm not sure it's possible. Here is the directory that was installed though.

    Kiel: Barcode Scanner will work.

  11. I use an app called Barcode Scanner. It should be the first result if you search in the market.

  12. How do u use the barcode scanner for this purpose,I have it,but can't figure out how to download the codes from the site?

  13. Rob: Just open barcode scanner, and point it at the black/white box. It should scan and give you the option to go directly to the market for download.

  14. Where are apps stored on the Droid? I tried downloading the rar you posted, but couldn't figure out where to copy the resulting file to. I doubt it'll work anyway, but figured it was worth a shot.

  16. Alright, well all of my file explorer apps don't seem to have access to the root folder, just shows it as empty and won't allow writing.

  18. We've had no success trying to port this to 2.0.1. As we have it, we'll definitely let you know immediately.

  20. I just downloaded it with rooted droid and works great. For anyone who hasn't rooted, I recommend it. Li ve wallpapers, multitouch, apps,etc... just use droid mod ( formerly sholes mod) to do it all....soooooo easy.
