a friend just told me he heard that the new update is coming with free tethering? anyone else hear anything on that?
ReplyDeleteI've heard the opposite, but I have no official info on it. Would be fantastic though.
ReplyDeletesorry for the confusion...disregard my last comment. my friend was just reading your site, got excited, and lumped in pdanet and flash as all coming with the update. lol.
ReplyDeleteHahaha. no worries chief.
ReplyDeleteVerizon WILL be offering a tethering package (Mobile Broadband) for the Droid (and Android Devices in general) soon. As to the exact definition of soon? I don't have that answer. VZW's software doesn't quite play nice with Android, and that's been the hold up.
PDA Net gives you a nice alternative, but just be careful. If your data usage spikes up tremendously, and they see you're doing levels of data that a smartphone just cant attain, than there is a good chance they'll look into it (Big Brother, err..Big Red is Watching). I've heard of people on other carriers get hit with usage / overage charges when using TetherBerry with their Blackberry devices, so it's not unheard of.
This isn't something I'd use all the time (for fear of the big V charging me), but it's great to know that if I'm in a pinch and need temporary internet on my laptop when I'm out and about I can use this.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the free version only supports HTTP access
ReplyDeleteYes, the free version does only support HTTP access. No HTTPS for free (im sure you can torrent the paid version...not that i condone such things.)
ReplyDeleteagain, its designed for in a pinch, "OH $#!+ i really need internet on my laptop, and cant be assed to go to McDonalds for wifi"
just a general question... can you tether the droid to say a iPod Touch???
ReplyDeleteWhat's that dock on the top of your desktop? I have Win7 and i have to have that too. LOL.
