  3. Even though they are giving pretty much (regarding the USA Droid) the same info as before (Rolling out soon) I appreciate the fact that they acknowledge the masses of customers inquiring about this. At the very least this is a sign that we are being heard. In the words of Homer Simpson "Urge to kill fading...fading....fading.....all gone" :)

  4. Haha, does Motorola know that a lot happens "SOON" My Birthday is SOON, next week is "SOON" Hell dinner is "SOON"

It is something though I guess. You can't say they're not listening because they didn't even have to issue this time-line and apparently they're feeling the heat.

  5. Jesus Christ will come back "soon". I know he will, but I don't think so anytime soon.

  6. the 2.1 update is becoming so wanted and yet you cant have it. its turning into some type of freako porn. "Oh yeah 2.1 you fix those bugs,, mmmm you looking fine, and boom goes the dynamite" lol just think "soon" enough we will have it.

  7. They told us Jack plain and simple they didn't want to admit they were going to screw up and not give Droid active wallpaper and 3d app drawer so they said it was a accidental post so they could go back and add it to the update and everyone falling for a time table that basicly says you get it when you get it so shutup

  8. Notice something else on the Moto support forum... Sounds like they have a play on words with certain things - at least the timeline above uses the word "upgrade" instead of "update".

We are working to bring you more information, sooner, about planned updates and upgrades to Motorola's Android phones. This is a somewhat new effort for us, so please be patient as we develop. We generall refer to "upgrades" as changes to your underlying Android operating system, such as an "upgrade" from 1.5 to 2.1. An "update" -- to those of us who work here -- is new software designed to improve, fix and enhance your Android device without changing the operating system.

  9. now I know how my kids feel when they ask me for something and I tell them "soon". Heh life goes on....

  10. Oh, "soon" is their idea of transparency? How utterly useful. My prayers are with Moto and VZW's support staff if this thing rolls out without the new homescreen, launcher and active wallpaper after all of this. You couldn't pay me to deal with that backlash.

Thanks for keeping us posted, kellex.

  11. You'd be surprised how few people actually call in about updates. I've yet to receive even one call about the Droid update. For as much of an uprising as there is on the internet for this, most of it doesn't actually carry over to call centers.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm not surprised by that. In fact, I expect that the # of people who freaked out about the update adds up to about 1% of all Droid owners.

  13. Obviously under a nondisclosure or something like it. "Please understand that Matt and I can't comment further." They are dealing with monolithic archaic carriers such as Verizon who are used to being totally in control of *everything* so all of these new "upstart" Android users are a new scary thing. And what do we normally do with things we fear? lol I give the Motorola guys credit for pushing it for the community.

Secondly... how about attacking this from a different front that Motorola *might* be able to discuss? Let's find out if we can have the ported apps on the phones and still have the OTA update come through with no problem. I was fine with the ported apps but took them off in anticipation of the OTA just in case. If this has already been established one way or the other, someone let me know.

  14. Very true, but you have to give VZW at least some credit for opening themselves up to something like this after having such control over everything on their network for so long.

This is great for both consumers and Google. Android gets introduced to a much larger consumer base, while also opening the door for VZW to start loosening their restrictions over software on the devices that they offer.

  15. Also, I like your suggestion of trying to get some info out of Motorola about the 2.1 apps. Looks like we have some extra time while we wait for the update, so we might as well get as much info as we can until then, right? ;)

  16. So I went to Verizon this morning in reference to a jbl speaker that busted on me anyway I asked an employee about 2.1 for Droid and he said it will come out today and Droid Eris will be shortly after the Verizon store I went to is in Vidalia,GA

  17. I have a moto droid but I love droid life so much I decided to share my information so if anyone wants to call the verizon store in vidalia, ga google it the people are nice there. But don't everyone call lol id rather kellex call maybe the droid life emperor already knows this info

  18. I went ahead and reinstalled my launcher and the MT Gallery. I missed my 5 homescreens and 3D app home grid. Dangit this sucks. I thought for sure by now we would be pimping 2.1.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Scott: The ported apps will more than likely work with 2.1 but won't be nearly as stable as the official ones that will come with the update.

Larry: That's interesting. We'll have to take that for what it is, a Verizon employee. I'll hit up some of my contacts this morning and see what I can squeeze out of them. Let's hope he's right though. :)

  20. I just want a email signature for my exchange accounts without having to rely on google or a 3rd party application like touchdown. If 2.1 fixes that, I'd be happy whenever it gets here. I can't believe that Google missed a no-brainer like that. Imagine the lawyers and CPAs who have to attach a disclaimer to their emails.
