motorola/verizon document leaked? 2.1 update next week?
Saturday, February 06, 2010the following document should be taken for what it is: a random internet pdf that looks like a quickly tossed together powerpoint slide that just about anyone with a cheap photo editing program could have made. with that said, a handful of people have confirmed that this looks fairly similar to previously leaked documents from verizon.
you be the judge...
(download the pdf here.)
no date, a half-dozen fonts, random pictures and a couple of company logos in no way legitimizes this document. is it a leaked spec sheet that will be handed out to verizon salespeople for the coming week or is this from some guy in a basement with way too much time on his hands?
obviously we're getting closer to our 2.1 update with the release of google maps 3.4 yesterday and then the news blip from pc magazine on google releasing "android 2.1 - update 1" to all android manufactuers.
thoughts?
update 10:32am (2/6):
i took a quick look over the document last night to see if there were any blatant errors and somehow missed the onboard memory of "250mb" when we all know it has 256mb. cheers @techdave1992 for the catch. fake? more than likely.
update 11:30am (2/6):
since we love rumors, we'll make sure you all saw this comment - "It's supposed to drop Feb. 10. I was at a Verizon event and was told this by a motorola rep."

There is no doubt in my mind that 2.1 is coming very soon.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't seem legit "android 2.0 technology " ?
ReplyDeleteIf we have some of the 2.1 apps installed already will there be any conflict when downloading the 2.1 software update (whenever it gets released)?
ReplyDeleteRob, just uninstall the 2.1 apps you've already installed if you're worried about it. That's what I'm doing when they officially release 2.1
ReplyDeleteRob: Like Brett said, just uninstall the 2.1 apps you have once we know the update is officially coming.
ReplyDeleteis it me or does it look very fake?
ReplyDeleteWell I work direct verizon I'm a supervisor at a call center and this looks nothing like there documents, so personally I think its fake.
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to drop Feb. 10. I was at a Verizon event and was told this by a motorola rep.
ReplyDeleteIt does smell of fish. I just want "Flash Lite".
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of fish? Trout? Tuna? Barracuda?
ReplyDeleteIts gotta be fake it says it comes with flash lite but we all kniow we don't have flash yet!!
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't say it has flash lite, it says it has a flash 10 ready browser which would be true once the update comes. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope it's true... have some of the 2.1 apps on my phone and it has made my Droid like a new phone again. Would love the official 2.1 though
ReplyDeleteAnd what about Milestone? We don't even officialy have 2.0.1, and our Facebook app doesn't have contact sync. What about 2.1 for Milestone?
ReplyDeleteI work for Mot Corporate and can confirm that we will NOT be releasing 2.1 on 2/10 as has been rumored here. We are discontinuing production of the smartphone and will now instead be providing the first 1,000 who contact us that owns it a free NexusOne, along with two years of free cell service. Anyone who graduated from the following universities, however, is not eligible and should not bother to contact us: Duke, NC State. Those attending UNC Chapel Hill will, however, get 10 years of free service.
ReplyDeleteHahaha greatest comment ever thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteJust pointing a couple of things out. One the dock screen is the same old thing. Two whats that other screen on the top right because I've never seen that before.
ReplyDeleteBad screenshots I think the top image looks like the lock screen on the eris and "text to speech beta" ??
ReplyDeleteA cousin of mine is a high up employee of Sprint he claims the Hero will be getting 2.1 in March now hopefully that means the Droids at Verizon will get it, if true I doubt they will let another competitor have 2.1 and Verizon be stuck at 1.5 and 2.0.1
ReplyDeleteSo ... is this thing for real now? Most of the data on the above sheet has been confirmed through other sources (engadget).
