droid life exclusive: city caller id app available again

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

yesterday, we threw up a quick post on an android application called "city caller id" which was under attack by caller id giant, cequint.  the developer was asking for donations to help in the fight to try to keep the app alive, but as of now, has decided to not pursue as the cost of such a task would be quite high.  the app has been removed from the market and has basically disappeared into the abyss of crappy lawsuits by big ol' companies.  well...until our readers caught wind of the situation!

if you want city caller id you can download it here.

cheers disco monkey!

  1. Awesome, thanks! Was looking for this but didn't want to ask you to post it and then you to get in legal trouble like the developer.

  2. Well hopefully we don't get into any legal trouble. If they wish to contact us, we'll gladly take it down.

  3. I apologize for the off-topic question, but I can't seem to find an answer (I've Googled it to death), and feel like this could be the source.

I got my Droid in Nov. 09, and I've kept it in a variety of cases since then. I would prefer to carry it "naked." So, I am wondering how durable it is without a case. I don't seem to have the battery cover issues that many have reported, I am more concerned with how well it keeps its finish.

Thanks for any feedback, and apologies if this isn't the right place to pose such a question.

  4. Michael: I've been caseless since xmas and my droid is holding up nicely. The bulk from the case was too much so I went without one as a test and have been without it since.

Finish is holding up just fine.

  5. I've had mine since the end of December with no case. The front of it has some dents and chips already (mostly from me dropping it once or twice when I get out of my truck.) If you can deal with the bulk then I would suggest a case. I'll probably be getting one pretty soon. Maybe droid life will have another contest sometime for a case ;)

  6. Just to clarify that last post, it's the raised portion around the screen that has the chips, not the screen itself.

  7. Kellex: Thank you sir! My Droid will now go au naturel for a while.

Syntakk: That's what I'm worried about. I haven't dropped it yet, but I'm sure it will happen soon without the case. It sounds like your screen is fine, which is good. I suppose if it I scratch it up, I can put it back in a case.

  8. Thanks for the link to the app! In a world of doesn't, droid life does.

Semi-related to the other comments in this entry, anyone else have the gold coating on the camera button start to chip off? I've only had my phone for a few weeks now and I haven't dropped it once. I have to assume it just got scratched the wrong way on the edge of a pocket. I know it's a very minor cosmetic issue, but it's kind of frustrating to see when my old enV2 got treated like crap for two years and all the metallic trim on that looks like new.

  9. Case or caseless? I have been caseless since the first week of December... sorta. Zagg has invisibleSHIELD. Clear, covers almost every surface, tough as nails & adds no bulk. I suggest paying the $10 to have a rep apply the skin, the Droid shield comes in 17 pieces! (Usually at a cart or kiosk at the mall). Oh, and a lifetime warranty to boot.

    kellex and droid-life... rock on!

  10. Sounds like a poll shall be made: I'm caseless. More sexy.

And thanks for the app. Not using it now, but have it for future reference. I had it in the past but it seeemed pointless as most callers were mobile and it shows where their number was registered not where they're actually located (which I'm sure is how its suppose to work) lol

  11. the side discussion: i go naked for sure. the only thing i use is an anti-glare screen protector. i never found a case i thought was thin enough or sexy enough. the physical appearance of the phone still looks great. I've had it since Dec.
