our chat conversation with a motorola rep on the 2.1 update
Thursday, February 11, 2010we are still digging as hard as we can to find out details about the supposed upcoming android 2.1 release to our motorola droid with our latest step as an attempt to swindle a motorola rep. we had minor success. our conversation started out slow but ended fairly well i think. check it...
Leandro P.: Hi, my name is Leandro P.. How may I help you?as you can see, he didn't necessarily give me an exact day, but he said you should be checking back almost daily for updates and the "coming really soon" part should at least help you crack a mini-smile.
KELLEN: Hey Leandro
KELLEN: I have a DROID and was wondering if the 2.1 update would start today or tomorrow?
Leandro P.: Let me help you with this
Leandro P.: There will be an update to 2.1 coming soon. But we do not have a date yes. You can periodically check on http://www.motorola.com/mydroid for updates.
KELLEN: I'll have to check that. One other thing, when you guys announced it would be this week, has that date now changed?
Leandro P.: It did not change, because we do not have a date. I am not aware of any official information that would tell us that it would be launched this week.
KELLEN: Oh, I just saw on your official Facebook page earlier this week that said the 2.1 update for DROID would be out this week. Was that not right?
Leandro P.: I can not confirm that. All I can tell you is that it is coming soon.
KELLEN: We're just really excited about the update!
Leandro P.: Yes, and Motorola is aware of that. You will see the updates on that site that I provided.
KELLEN: Update is there now? :) OK I'll keep checking back. Thanks for your help.
Leandro P.: You will have to periodically check to see the news.
Leandro P.: You are welcome
KELLEN: So when should I check back?
Leandro P.: It would be good to check every day
KELLEN: So that must mean it's coming really soon? :)
Leandro P.: It is coming really soon.

ahhh I just want a straight answer so I know if it would be worth it to re load all the apks from this site... All of them worked great on my Droid and I'm starting to miss them but if it is still coming this week I'll hold off

ReplyDeleteI'm with Aaryn. I really am missing the 5 pages for all my Widgets & Apps. Even though it would take a few seconds some time and crash.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. Ever since I found this site, I no longer even go to cough, cough..."bgr" any longer. That dude really pissed me off with his post. So lame in my opinion and he's only looking for traffic.

kellen whats your next plan of action to get news?
ReplyDeleteof course they want you to check back every day. Then they get more visits to their site and who knows maybe you will see something else on there that you want to buy.... Sorry this really doesn't help at all. But definitely A++ for effort

Potentially the worst news all day
ReplyDeleteI called vzw about a problem with my network extender, after getting that straightened out, and the nice lady asked me if there was anything else she could help me with, I figured why the hell not? An asked if she had any information on a tentative release date on 2.1
She said that they did not, to check Motorola's website. She further elaborated that Motorola had not even released the update to Verizon yet, that they were waiting on Motorola/Google for such software and they would begin pushing it as soon as they received it.
Take it for what its worth I guess.
More and more we are getting mixed info from reps at both Verizon and Motorola. Not sure what to think...I hope they realize how many angry customers they are about to have.

give us our live wallpaper, animated tray, 5 homescreens, and speech to text. If they don't than don't bother with the update becuase than it'll just be stupid. Who the hell needs google goggles with the update when we can just get it from the market at anytime DUHHH!
ReplyDeleteThis is not happening this week. They certainly are not releasing anything on a Saturday. I am not so angry that we are not getting an update as I am at how completely unresponsive Moto has been on the subject. They allow all this speculation to run wild and do NOTHING to quell it. I really feel that is the root of all the annoyance.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of any company that would be as forthright as people are expecting Moto to be. They don't have a day and time yet simply because they are still working on it. They have told us all they know: that it will be "soon." I don't expect any company to be able to tell the future.

The facebook page, which is an official Moto portal, stated that the update would be rolled out this week. It is Friday, I have no update and neither does anyone else.
ReplyDeleteAm I mad about not having an update? No. Am I mad that I was basically lied to? Kind of. Am I mad that no one at Motorola has refuted their own claim? Yes.
It pisses me off that I can spend this amount of money on a product and be talked to by others as if I bought a 30 dollar MP3 player.
