how to sync facebook contacts on your motorola droid

Friday, February 19, 2010

this is one of those questions we get quite a bit actually. "hey droid life! how the heck do we sync facebook with our contact list?!? only some of them will show up!" and obviously this is a good question as the facebook sync is pretty much the most wishy-washy thing on the planet. (did facebook forget about android? i'd say so.)

fortunately for us this process is pretty simple.  and here we go...

1. open up facebook and go into your "friends."
2. find the friend that you want sync'd.
3. tap on their picture and choose the "contacts" icon.
4. tap your options button and select "edit contact."
5. tap options button again and select "join."
6. if the correct contact is not suggested, tap "show all contacts."
7. choose the contact you want and select "done."
8. bam, that's it!

as always, let me know if you run into any issues with that.

  3. Hmm, I haven't noticed any trouble with syncing, didn't even think about it really. When you login to the Facebook app it asks if you want to sync. I hit "yes" and that was it. Also, if you choose "no," you can go into Accounts & Sync, go to Facebook, and tell it to sync.

If you mean that you've done that and not all of the contacts are added to your phone, then I can't say that I've noticed that. Of course I haven't really checked either, but a quick glance after syncing showed more contacts than were there before, so I just assumed it worked.

  4. I have a bunch of contacts, but only 3 of them show up in my contacts. So when it doesnt bring up the one I want as a recommend contact, I can't find out how to search so I can join it with the one I want. If I press "show all contacts" it just shows like 3 contacts, when I have over 100 in the phone... =/

  5. I am not a fan of this option. When I did it last month I ended up with so many contacts it was driving me nuts. To top it all off, if they list their phone number in the profile and it's wrong, you got bad info and can't call em anyways.

  8. If you've synced your Facebook contacts and it's overwhelming, you can hide them. Go to Contacts, Display Options, your facebook account, and uncheck all contacts.
