motorola droid 2.1 ota update leaked?
Friday, February 19, 2010just after we broke the news of the droid eris receiving the 2.1 update earlier in the week, we've got new news which may have our droids running 2.1 very soon. developer pete, who is one of the masterminds behind the bugless beast rom has leaked what he is claiming as the android 2.1 update that was supposed to have been released to all of us last week. he has also added in video of his droid working flawlessly, but as you'll notice, without the 3d app drawer and without 5 screens.
the file which is not installable and is really only useful to developers at this time is available, but please don't ask me for instructions on how to get it working. :)
file: system.rar
if you extract the contents of the file you'll notice a few things:
- Gallery3D
- Genie Widget
- Google Goggles

ReplyDeletenotice when he shows us that in fact the phone is running 2.1... it reads "2.1-Update1". is that because its only for developers? or does that mean we should expect Update2 shortly after with possibly having the 3d drawer and live wallpapers? Flash 10.1?
ReplyDelete2.1 Update 1 is what we were told we should be expecting. Update 2 could come at a later date but we've heard no rumors as to when or what it could include.
ReplyDeletei see... thanks man.
ReplyDeleteI realize are inadequate Droids don't compare to the power of the Nexus One...but this is BS. Just make everything the same and give the user the option to turn things on and off.
ReplyDeleteOverclocked our little monsters could run circles around the N1.
It's too bad Google doesn't hire the ROM developers and just give them carte blanche to make their product far far better.
this is just the release that Verizon rejected because MOTO got lazy and tried to gimp us by taking out features that are built into 2.1 like active wallpapers.
ReplyDeleteYeah its definitely not the version we all wanted. Lets hope they really are releasing with 3d launcher and live papers to make everyone really happy. :)
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that this is not the version that Verizon was testing a few weeks ago?
ReplyDeleteNot sure, but very well could be.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there a video of the Eris running 2.1 with live wallpapers, 3d drawer and without the fabric of the universe falling apart? Seems like my droid can handle those features. They should put them in.

I was down at the verizon store earlier and the rep said to expect 2.1 some time in march...and he didn't sound too confident either. Then he said, "why don't u just root your droid, I did." Lol, uhh...ok. I wasn't expecting that from a verizon employee..
ReplyDeleteVerizon employees telling you to void your warranty. Probably not something they teach in "Selling Tips 101."
ReplyDeleteverizon has good phone service, but this whole update thing is ridiculous. one of the things apple has an edge up on over google is this ability to push the updates themselves. weak.
ReplyDeletejust give me 5+ home screens and the upgraded apps!!! i don't care about the 3D launcher or live wallpaper. shoot me! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLook at the date. The 29th? If that build was for the 29th, I'd be surprised if that's what were getting 'soon'
ReplyDeleteMatt the forums manager at MOTO claims this IS NOT the update we are getting but Petes creation, interesting indeed........
ReplyDeleteI hope he is right and not getting our hopes up.
so do I download this rename it update.zip and do it like it im rooting my Droid or do i install all the apks one after one?
ReplyDeleteMichael: No. Do not try to install this.
